Easter 2017

Everything about Easter this year was so wonderful. I don’t know which part was the best- Daddy getting to come home from work at a decent hour, Caroline having so much fun finding her Easter basket, or the fun she had getting to share a train ride with Daddy. It was all just perfect.

Easter eve, Daddy got the exciting task of hiding Caroline’s Easter basket. At her age, she’s actually pretty good at finding things, but it totally depends on her mood. She’s pretty impatient and is in a phase where she doesn’t like to try on her own and immediately asks for help. Daddy chose the perfect spot for her basket with these things in mind! This year, it was tucked away in her shoe bin by the front door, with just a little bit of the handle sticking out to catch her eye.

This is the first thing we see as we walk downstairs, so I actually made sure to stand in front of it so she wouldn’t see it immediately! I wanted her to have to look at least a little bit! (Horrible mom I know haha). So when we were in the family room, she set off looking. She looked under the table, under the couch, and in a few bins once I finally got her going. She then decided she was going to go look in the kitchen cabinets. As she walked in the hallway, she noticed her shoes needed to be put away. This immediately drew her attention to her shoe bin, and she found her basket!

In her basket this year:

– A couple of Easter books
– Kit-Kats and Reese’s eggs
– Socks galore
– Undershirts just like Mama’s
– Tattoos
– Purple nail polish
– Toothpaste

I tried to fill it mostly with things she needed, or that I was planning on buying her anyway! Everything was a hit, and she immediately wanted to try on the undershirts and socks (after eating candy, of course). She also had one of her tattoos on pretty quickly.

We then had breakfast and got ready for the day. It was a gorgeous 80 degree day, so we decided to go for a walk. Caroline pushed her toy stroller with Ernie in it, and I walked Moose. After our walk, we stayed outside in the front yard just to soak up more sun. It was a perfect morning!

Daddy was able to come home from work later that morning, and we headed to Cabin John for a train ride! I had actually taken Caroline to this train ride about a week before, and she’d loved it. It is an “eye spy” train. They give the kids a sheet full of pictures to find while on the ride. Caroline has a lot of fun marking everything off. When we arrived home, she was immediately talking about taking Daddy, so we decided it would be a perfect day to go back.

We packed a picnic, and headed to Cabin John. We were able to get on the train right away. Caroline had so much fun doing the ride with Daddy along this time. We then found a table and ate our lunch, and then had time for the swings!

At that point we went home so Caroline could get a nice nap in. We spent the rest of the day at home just relaxing. It was so nice, we ate dinner (breakfast tacos), outside on the deck.

I love a good day filled with simple family time, and that is exactly what we got to do….just enjoy each other’s company. I love that Caroline is old enough now to really appreciate these moments with us and have an absolute blast!
